I dun even remember if i've blogged abt the mystery of indian english?



anyways...im not sayin my english is good or fine (blamin it on 4 yrs in italy n now 2 yrs in india..lol)



but the way india has taken in the english ( british english) language and completely reversed orders and made their own words is fascinating....



Naughty = is a child that is misbehaving, not at all in a sexual way...first time i heard



- Oh, that little boy is sooooo naughty only! or - My daughter is so NAUGHTYYY! I freaked out a lil.....



Only = can be added at the end of any sentence at ANY TIME.



- i will arrange that sample only...

- are you eating fish only?

- are you living in delhi only?

- i will just do that only........



Itself - used often to add on to a person or place



- are you living in delhi itself only?

- its that marketplace itself only....



Double usage of words...for no reason.....



-different different things..

-many many shops....

-little little time....

-more more hungry...

etc...







Also how they use brand names for items...



Asking for stock cubes in a supermarket is useless...

-Maggi cubes is the way to say.......



So many times they know the names, but not really what it is they're selling......







a lot of words are being added without no reason at all.....and thats kind of how the system in india is working as well.....a lot of fuss and this and that and no no no no, until yes.....and then made anyways in the slowest least efficient way...

So there's a mass email sent to the office today...







System & Method Training of how to put plates in disk washer







We received the extrordinary INFO the other week that we have to put plates, glasses and anything else we use to munch our lunch with in the DISHWASHER by OURSELVES!???







A small panic spread thru the crowds in the office..whispers and wrinkles in foreheads...But no one asked HOW?







No one asked....







This initiative was also combined with a try to make the office more cost concious and more envoirmentally friendly...







so the issue was then how much water we use cleaning our plates, before someone from the housing staff in the office would put the items into the machine... (!)







when both of these crazy news was announced one after the other, NO ONE asked why or HOW...(as normally the case in india :))







So the result was further on that chuks of masal dripping pcs of food would lay everwhere in the machine..which eventually ended up with someone else doing the job we was assigned to do...











also further thinking, we wouldnt save water as the machine would run twice to get the crockery clean... eventually the machine would most probably brake down from all the pakoras, chapatis, rice etc getting stuck in the filter.....




And what difference would it make when my plate would take the space of 4? Or if the bowl i put in, is resting ontop of another bowl? Would that perhaps make the cleaning process quicker and more efficiant? Since thats actually why we do this????

more facts......n advices in superstitious india

So there was the solar eclipse on the 15th i was informed about from 2 dear colleagues at the office here in new delhi...

went to get a cup of tea and....these 2 gentlemen asked me with excitment in their voices IF IF IF WE IN SWEDEN have any kind of rules now for the whole solar eclipse thing???
i have problems understanding them at first when they gladly explain that in india....INCREDIBLE INDIA..There are several restrictions on what u are allowed to do, what to avoid and what is dangerous etc... (!)

So pregnant women they said should never ever go out during this eclipse....
it would hurt the child they said..
I ask why, (thinking WTF) and how...
Explanation & facts ZERO...
Just that everyone knows this and that during this eclipse no women should be exposed to it, so they better stay at home, hidden away..
BUT WHY?! i ask again....
Well one figured for a while n then said:
It hurts the child..and yes....the child will be born with a split lip/hare-lipped
.........yes that can happen/...
I ask HOW!???
and of course NO explanation....no facts and just as usual in incredible india..no SENSE....

I say i have probelms understanding this in full and i cant believe its true..without scientific facts i simply cant...

And he goes on telling me that there are soooooo many facts...soooo many... its true...

i leave the 2 colleagues with this new info & cannot do other than smile...
